I have been to over a hundred community dialogues. There is a consistent displeasure expressed by the citizens regarding excessive, nonsensical and intrusive, fees, taxes and regulations. Why is it that when Oregon governments write statutes and codes, the burden of proof is always on the citizen but not on the government? Why is the answer always more taxes, not encouraging prosperity? Statutes that are supposed to protect the citizens such as property tax limitations have loopholes that allow them to be used against the public. A big part of the problem is special interest groups dictating government policy. Another are patronage appointees not qualified for their positions and/or representing special interests. They go hand in hand. I have not solicited or accepted support from special interest groups. The amount of these solicitations that a candidate receives is huge. The special interests use very tricky questionnaires that entrap candidates. I am not a member of any special interest group.
I have written two pieces of proposed legislation for accountability of government employees that would greatly impede patronage and empower citizens. Oregon citizens will never have prosperity and enjoy what this beautiful state has to offer unless government starts working for the citizens not citizens working for the government. Increased taxation and fees are not the answer!! Taxation is a parasite that will consume the host, you the citizens.
